Memoirs of a Musician
It all started in 2007 at Dark Horse Recording studio and my song I recorded Sit Tight. With that recording I met Nathan Lewis. His dad subsequently is Luke Lewis CEO of Universal Music Group Nashville. Nathan liked the recording I did but said it wasn’t “sonically up-to-par.” So I recorded a three song EP with all the big budget professionalism you’d expect from the best on the market. I kept after Nathan afterwards vying for his attention and approval. Finally one night, CMA night, I met with him and we listened to my EP. He went ballistic about how amazing it was. Nathan set up a meeting with his father, Luke on a Thursday; the day before Luke would fly to the west coast for the AMA’s. So Nathan and I sat across from Luke Lewis in his huge office listening to my music watching his dad tap his foot secretively under the desk. His dad says: “give me 3 CD’s” and “these things take time”. Sweet I’m in! He goes to Interscope in California, texting Nathan about me during the AMA awards where Luke is in attendance. Wow that’s cool. November rolls by. December closes most offices and then boom January strikes. A huge lay-off hits the label where the head guy Luke gave my CD to. I stay in good spirits and so does Luke. Nathan lays low for the rest of the story. By February 2008 I record my latest song “Who We Are” and send it to Luke to keep him motivated. Luke says: “Another great song by this kid”. Cool he thinks I’m a kid and I’m great.
Now what? I start playing acoustic shows at Loew’s Vanderbilt in Nashville twice a month. I meet some amazing people like The Who and our next important character in this story: Joe Fisher Senior A&R at you guessed it, Universal Music Group Nashville. He’s at my show and hears me play one of my favorite songs “Long Black Veil” which is a country hit owned by UMG. He loves it and basically offers me a publishing deal as we’re talking. Little does Joe know but I’ve been talking to Luke and Luke agrees to accept an acoustic EP that I put together exclusively for Mr. Luke Lewis. Only 2 CD’s were made full color print and artwork to the T. The day I finished recording and duplicating Luke emails me and says drop them off at my office around 5pm. Nice, rush hour traffic. In Nashville. I-24! I make it there in an unofficial world record of 16 minutes from Antioch! He was in a meeting. He texts and says: “I’ll call you as soon as I listen” I called the next day and told Luke’s assistant to leave the acoustic EP which by the way is called “Pigg Sessions”. An Acoustic EP by bVm and have her place the 2nd CD on Joe’s desk. In the meantime Joe asked for a copy of the song he’s under the impression that I have it recorded, but I do not! I go to work and record “Long Black Veil” and send it to Joe Fisher within 2 days. Also a side note, as soon as Luke agreed to hear an acoustic EP I found a producer and a place to record and finished the project in 3 days! So needless to say I mean business.
